Full Restoration Service

We follow a meticulous and comprehensive process in fully restoring a sash window, aimed at returning it to the highest possible functionality, aesthetic appeal and structural integrity. The steps of this thorough process are as follows:

Preparation
We achieve the best results by putting the time and effort required into the preparation phase of the work. Removing all the paint using braziers is not only very satisfying but also allows us to identify any rotten areas in need of attention. Once the bare wood is revealed we sand thoroughly ensuring a smooth finish, crisp lines and showing detail in moldings often hidden behind layers of paint for years

Rot and damage repairs
Repairing any rotten or damaged wood using hardwood or seasoned wood as appropriate, secured and sealed using the Dry Flex wood care system. Dry Flex is a flexible epoxy resin filler, perfect for rot repairs providing durability and resilience against the elements. Join lines are often the first points of entry for damage, we remedy this by sealing them with Dry Flex, further enhancing your windows’ longevity

Putties
Blown or cracked putties are often points of water ingress too. Completely removing and reseating the glass allows us to properly address any issues hiding behind it and seal securely with precise new putty lines

Rebalancing and rehanging
Sometimes due to glass being replaced with thicker pieces over time and sometimes just due to poor workmanship, sash windows are often incorrectly balanced causing issues with movement. We ensure weights are exactly correct upon rehanging for perfect smooth movement. Depending on the weight of the sash we rehang using traditional waxed cotton sash cord for maximum durability and smooth movement

Draught proofing
Draught excluders are fitted as part of a full restoration, increasing the energy efficiency of your home and keeping noise out (or in!) We fit staff and parting beads inlaid with draught pile as well as fitting draught pile to the meeting point of the two sashes, creating an all round seal and ensuring smooth movement

Hardware
Damaged pulleys, handles, hinges or fasteners can hinder the movement, security and aesthetic of your windows. Existing hardware will be lubricated, repaired or replaced as appropriate. Lifts, Dee handles and sash restrictors are also be excellent additions to improve the functionality and aesthetic of your sash windows

Redecoration
Our paint of choice is the Zinsser All Coat range for its bright, beautiful finish and durability. We prefer to take care of the decoration ourselves as this saves our customers having to deal with more than one trade and it allows us to ensure your windows have excellent protection and low maintenance for the future.
